Thomas bus Cummins engine check engine light, code 0687, 4713. ECM calibration

Use laptop, Cummins Insite connect to the ECM, two active codes:
Use Nexiq2 connect to the J1939 Female connector


Key on position

Yellow check engine light is on

Run Cummins INSITE program

Press left side “Connect to ECM” button

Press “connect” button


Press left side “Fault Codes” button when ECM connection is established

  1. 0687 – Turbocharger 1 speed-Data Valid But Below Normal Operating Range

  2. 4713 – Engine Fuel Injection Quantity Error for Multiple Cylinders.


    Solving process:

  3. Search in the internet. The turbocharger speed is between 15664 to17242 which is normal. My decision: do ECM calibration first.

  4. Calibration ECM from DT90258.03 to DT90258.13 (Lasted Version)
    Press left side Calibration Selection, choose the right ECM Part Number.
    Double click the right side info

  1. Original two codes: 0687and 4713 gone. But two new active codes:
    2222 - Fuel level (Main Tank) Sensor Circuit - Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source
    6261 - Engine Starter Motor Relay Circuit - Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source

  2. Cause: May some of the original parameter changed during the ECM calibration process.
  3. Cummins Insite connect to the ECM.
  4. Found the work order before calibration. Convert to template.
  5. Right click the new template, send to ECM

    Press OK


  6. No active codes
  7. Road test. No codes showing.
